Capturing the Divine

About

I love capturing not just what the eyes see, but what is felt in a moment.

We do not want merely to see beauty...We want something else which can hardly be put into words - to be united with the beauty we see, to pass into it, to receive it into ourselves, to bathe in it, to become part of it.
— C. S. Lewis, "TRANSPOSITION AND OTHER ADDRESSES" (1949)

Aethereus is a Latin word for heavenly, celestial, or divine. This name was chosen to convey how I try to capture moments. Anyone can press a button on a camera or phone, but few can capture the moment. I long to capture the divine beauty in the moments we wish to hold on to.

So many people can just click a button on a camera and take a picture. I believe I posses an ability to capture the emotions behind a picture that seem to exist only in the present; to capture that hidden beauty we want to hold on to. I love trying to capture those indescribable feelings through photography and videography. I believe that is what makes me different than most other creative artists.

I love to take candids of people and capture who they really are. Although I could tell people how to sit, stand, or place their hands, I would much rather capture them in their own element instead of mine. As people, I think we have such a desire to appear a certain way, to live up to crazy standards of what we think we should be for others. Instead, I want to capture who we were made to be and capture the divine beauty all of us possess.

Photographs and videos are more than a vast assortment of colored pixels on an electronic screen or a bunch of ink on a sheet of paper. Both are ways of capturing the present – with all the emotions, thoughts, and actions – to preserve them as they are in the future. The moment captured never ceases to end.

My passion and eye for photography influences the way in which I try to film and capture life in motion. Photography and videography feed into one another, allowing me to strive for the best in each area.  Beauty is all around and I want to capture as much of it as I can.
